QAD - UltrarestHDX

When I bought this rest, it was between QAD UltrarestHDX and Ripcord Code Red. I have not problem with either but I ended up choosing QAD. I was actually headed to the pro shop to get the Ripcord but…. I didn't leave with one.  Believe me the Ripcord is a great rest but there are some features on the QAD had that won me over.

Number one… It stays up when you let down. YES! When you shoot a 70lbs draw like me, you can't just let down nice and smooth. If the rests drop your arrow will almost guarantee to bounce around and off your arrow shelf. If it wasn't for the arrow knocked on, it would fall off completely. With the rest stayig up when you let down, it will still contain your arrow. I can almost guarantee there will be a time when you are at full draw and the animal will not present you a shot. You will tire out, let down, and there goes your arrow bouncing around. Deer know what sounds are from nature and what sounds are not. An arrow bouncing around is not a natural sound. If it hears it, and almost inevitable it will, you will have a high alert deer.

That shot you had, will stay that shot you HAD…

I have used it in FREEZING icy wet weather and scorching hot. It has yet to fail on me. It did drop once or twice when I let down but to be fair I let down pretty fast. The felt stays on pretty good but like anything else it will wear out. In doing so, you can get replacement felt. Really easy to replace.

The one thing I don't like is the containment arm seems to be a pretty flimsy plastic. But… It has never broken on me and I am not the easiest on my bow. I do believe if your hunting gear is not tough enough to stand the heavy use you don't need it. Last thing you need is something to break when your out in the middle of nowhere. It does say it has a break away feature, this could be what they mean. If an arrow gets hung up maybe it will break off to prevent injury. I am not real sure what that means other than that. Dunno…

It is easy to install, easy to use, easy to tune, easy…

Bottom Line is, I like this rest!

It looks good on my bow and works really really well!

Oh, one last thing. If you install it on a Hoyt bow, you will need allen wrenches with a short L. The standard sizes will not fit between the back screw and the brace…

The Custom:

 Not sure how much…

The website is not very informative about these but it does state that  they are custom made for your brand of bow. They look a lot like the  HDX but with brand specific modifications. They look really good…  When I purchased mine I would have probably picked the one specific  for my bow but I didn't know that option was there. And really it  works really well and I would place bets that brand specific are more  expensive. So really if it was too much more I would have went with  what I have anyway.

Best of all…. These things are 100% Designed and Manufactured in the beautiful USofA

Keep in mind this review is not to say the Ripcord is inferior I am just saying I personally like the QAD’s a little better. If you don't mind the rest dropping upon let down you cant go wrong with a Ripcord.

Here is a little about the resets. From the website…

QAD has several rests to choose from, the hunter, the LD, the HDX, and the CUSTOM.

To me the difference between them is what bells and whistles you want. And how much money are you willing to spend.
