There have been several changes to the Rage Mechanical Broadhead since my first usage. And they were welcomed.

My first encounter with the broadhead was awesome! It flew extremely well, and I hit my mark. Had deer meat for months. But then I had to change out the blades… Well that all changed, my excitement lost a few points.

I found out that you had to hammer out that pin with the tool provided.  Wait a minute? There isn’t a tool that comes with it. You have to find something that will fit in that little hole. Find someway to hold that thing without cutting yourself and hammering that pin out. Not really all that easy. Especially when you find that stuff out at deer camp and remember that you didn’t change the dang blades out. You have to be real creative to get that thing out….. Lots of smashed fingers.

But it is entertaining watching someone else smashing their fingers!

Needless to say I hated changing out that thing. But…, when they changed the design to have an Allen screw instead of a hammered in pin. It was magic in the making.

I no longer was choosey to what I shot with the broadhead. You could even change out the blades in the field.

But I still had to deal with the rubber band. The band works pretty well but not perfect. There were times when I was in full draw and saw dangling blades. Not a good site… You have to let down to fix the blades and that is especially hard when a deer is staring at you.

But even with all that, I sill choose to use them. They fly true, make big holes, and everything I shot with them died. Just be careful not to bump the quiver. When it’s full of Rages they will rattle a little, but not bad enough to cause problems. You may want to add some string wax to the blades to keep them from rattling. But don’t use too much, If you site in with a 100 grain tip you don’t want to add to much more weight. But I doubt it will be enough to matter….
