Gold Tip Arrows,

They are less expensive. But are they as good?

I have actually used Gold Tip arrows for some time now. But have also used other brands of which some can cost a fortune. If your like me purchasing super expensive arrows is not always feasible. Even though I have used several other brands I haven't used every one available on the market. So my intentions here are not to say that the others aren't any good, but to say. Buying super expensive arrows may just be a little advertising hype.

Now Gold Tip does have an expensive line but why spend more than you have to. (At first) I have shot plenty of animals with them and wouldn't shy away from shooting any type of game, Bear, Elk, Red Stag, PETA... wait, not PETA.  (Just kidding guys, its a joke!....)

 I'm, sorry.

Anyways, I just don’t think there is a "game animal" out there I wouldn't use them on.

They say their arrows are tough enough that you can span 3 of them and they will fully support a 225lbs man.

Sooo… we tried it.

See is says you can...

It works! Of course this is my wife and not me. I figured you rather see a fine looking lady and not some burly look'n dude. It says three arrows will hold up a 225lbs but I figured my wife of a 100 and blah blah pounds will do just fine. (I'm very slightly a little over 225) Didn't think it would be a good test result.

Since my wife is quite a bit less than 225, we thought we would up the ante a little and add my son, well... Still worked!

My son is about 60lbs and like I said earlier my wife is about a 100 and blah blah lbs.

Between the two of them, they are pushing 200 and the arrows didn't seem to bend much more...

(Yes for you math nerds this does give out her weight... Kind of)

I have to say I have bounced these things off of trampoline frames, walls, rocks and they've survived. Of course I have broken some but the way they broke, I don't think any brand arrow would have survived. When you shoot straight into a rock they just don't fair well. Although I have shot into a 55-gallon drum barrel and it didn't faze them. Of course I did check them every time after something like that happened. If you don't know how to check them, all you do is just look them over for shards of carbon and then bend them. But you need to remember to bend them turn a little, bend them again and repeat until you have checked all the way around. You don't want to make the mistake of only bending them in one direction with the other side being broke and not know. Trust me you don’t want to shoot a broken arrow!

Your hand can very well end up like this guys...

This is a very unfortunate situation, but it really gets the point across. Do not shoot with too short of arrows and always check them!!! Depending on when this happened, it’s obvious his archery hunting season has been put on hold for awhile...

(No I did not take this picture I found it online.)

My apologies for the gruesomeness

They also hold fletching’s really well, as long as you use a good glue or course. Elmer’s Glue probably won't do the trick…  I personally use Easton fletching glue and have never had one pop off. If they do come off, it's usually because they get torn off by other arrows.

I don't use any arrow with the straightness greater than .003 of an inch to hunt with or shoot 3D tournaments. I know of others who do well with .006 but I can’t get my brain to let me. If you are a serious target archer you may want to step it up to .001, but for hunting... Eeh.

I use XTHunters that are .003 and also state that they are +/- 2 Grains. I personally weigh all my arrows to see if there are any odd men out, and these arrows do very well. I do believe what they advertise is correct. Most of the time when my arrow weights were different. It was because whoever cut them, didn't get their lengths exactly the same. This makes me angry, and justifies me getting my own saw.

The problem is, good ones aren’t just real cheap…  But I want my arrows perfect dang it!!!

With all this being said, If you are a beginner don't worry too much about how straight your arrows are, and do not buy expensive! I promise you, no matter how tough they say they are. You will break them, you will loose them, and then have to replace them. There is no need to spend all that money for lost and broken arrows. Now when you get to where you can hit the target most of the time. You can step up your arrow quality and straightness.  Your pocket book will thank you.

So in short, I really do like Gold Tip arrows. I do think they make a phenomenal arrow and you can’t go wrong. But do yourself a favor, purchase them from someone who cares, someone who will cut them properly because..,

In the archery world, shaft length matters…
